President Trump Calls Families of Shot Military Members to the White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Attendees assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the administration to halt asylum applications and halt providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
