One of the co-founders behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed how he plans to personally create this new flavor within an individual collection showcasing causes the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Founders and Corporate Owner

The recent development escalates the continuing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation that has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

Both founders maintain how Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Flavor as an Emblem for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians because of its coloration, which mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company selling their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally created several years back for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes plus Upcoming Plans

The founder revealed how he will create additional frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, following decades of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy was undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen remarked how “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence so that it can achieve the social mission, the values that established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
