Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
