Tragic Find: Remains of Missing Mum and Daughter Found in Freezers in the Alpine Nation

The bodies of a 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter have been located inside freezers in an apartment in western Austria.

The deceased, a Syrian woman and her daughter, who had been unaccounted for for a number of months, were found on Friday. The freezers were concealed behind a drywall partition in the flat, located in the Innsbruck area.

A pair of males, a Austrian man, 55 and his 53-year-old brother, were taken into custody in June. The elder brother, a work associate of the female victim, informed law enforcement last week that there had been an incident—but disputed homicide.

Addressing the media recently, a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office stated the pair were being kept in custody on "strong suspicion of murder".

Personal details of those implicated have not been released by police, in compliance with Austrian law.

The vanishing of the mother and child was initially flagged by the cousin of the mother, who lives in Germany, on 25 July 2024.

Investigators revealed the woman's colleague told them at the time she had gone on an prolonged visit with her daughter to visit her parents in the nation of Turkey.

Her bank card was then discovered to be utilized overseas repeatedly.

Yet when officers entered the victim's residence, her smartphone was discovered.

An individual also stated hearing a disturbing sound in the apartment, and cries of "mum" on the day the two were thought to have disappeared.

A wider official inquiry was initiated, with officers finding various messages originating from the mother's device—such as a job termination message to her workplace and texts to the 55-year-old suspect.

Officials stated a significant cash transfer was also sent to the individual.

A senior police official told the press on recently that a rented space had been leased before the mother and child went missing and a freezing appliance had been positioned inside.

The male siblings removed the cooling unit from the facility on the day the mother and daughter vanished, she stated. And a shortly afterward, they acquired a second unit.

Officials say they think this points to the fatalities were intentionally orchestrated.

"The reason for their demise remains unclear due to the advanced decay of the bodies," Tersch commented.

The prosecutor's spokesman—representing the state—stated the exact sequence of events is not yet known, but the bodies were expertly concealed and not discovered during a previous house search.

While the brothers were arrested in the summer, it was not until 12 November that the 55-year-old confessed to an occurrence and to storing the victims. He disputes any plan to cause death, officials stated.

The two suspects are at this time in custody awaiting trial in prisons in Innsbruck and Salzburg, around 117 miles (189km) apart.
