Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.
The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the hit program reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.
The Central Mystery: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.
“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.
“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?
“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
